I currently teach graduate and undergraduate reading methods courses, reading in the content area, and children’s and young adolescent literature at the University of TN at Martin. Additionally, I am the co-director of a $3.3 million dollar grant awarded to UT Martin through the US Department of Education, which allows me multiple opportunities to work with practicing educators and provide much-needed resources. Prior to coming to UTM, I taught developmental reading for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in Southwest Florida and served as Reading Department Chair. The district served over 94,000 students and represented 122 languages. My research interests include: implementing reading strategies across content areas, integrating technology to engage students and impact learning, and motivating reluctant readers.
