Are You Being Fair? Tips for Avoiding Favoritism
Treating all students fairly and equitably requires teachers to control their emotions. A good example are actors who express their emotions in a very controlled way. Educators need to be aware of their emotional responses toward different students and not let those emotions interfere with the learning experience. This article explains why teachers must remain fair and treat their student equably.

Classroom Management
Try using one of the suggestions offered in your classroom:
- To ensure that each child gets called upon, draw Popsicle sticks (with a name on each one) or clothespins from one of two cans. Once a name is called the stick goes in the second can until everyone in the class has had a turn.
- Use 3x5 index cards with children's names on them and "stack the deck" for students with special needs by adding their names more than once.
