Biomes: Extreme Climates

This lesson plan is provided by Discovery Education and is perfectly adapted to the middle school student. The plan combines information about the Arctic Biome and Global Warming, so a basic understanding of both is necessary for student success.  This activity could be used to reinforce what students learned about the Arctic Biome. Students have to use prior knowledge to tie together certain aspects of the arctic with current global warming issues. The students are required to think through and then verbally express connections in a circle group activity. The students also make visual connections between concepts by tossing yarn to each other as they tie ideas together. There is a formative assessment that concludes the activity.
