Build a Beast Animal Adaptations

This lesson can be used at the beginning of the lesson or at the end as a summative assessment. Survival of the fittest should be integrated in this project. Student's creation should demonstrate knowledge of survival of populations and how adaptations help organisms survive. The scenario for this project provides students a creative way to demonstrate knowledge about how adaptations help organisms survive. This lesson can be adapted by having students work in groups of three and one student will design the animal, another student can design the new planet, and the third student can create a plant for the new planet. This site provides assessment criteria for students to follow but I would develop a rubric for assessing projects. Students can design their animal through a computer program as another adaptation.
