Color Vision

"Color Vision" is a free Java applet used to simulate additive color mixing of light. Red, green, and blue light shine from lamps at a man, who reveals the color he sees through a cartoon thought bubble. Users can adjust the intensities of the colors. A second activity introduces a filter to further investigate transmission of light. The user may alternate between a white or adjustable monochromatic light source. Visitors to the site can choose to download the applet or run it online.Teachers can also download lesson plans submitted by other teachers who have used the resource in their classrooms. Additive color mixing is used to explain how white light can be a combination of all the colors. This resource allows the user to explore additive color mixing and the filtering of color.
