Buoyancy

"Buoyancy" is a free Java applet used to simulate the buoyant force a body of liquid exerts on a block of wood, brick, styrofoam, ice, or aluminum. The user may choose to display force vectors for buoyant force and weight. Scales can also be used to measure the weight. The density of the fluid may be adjusted from air to oil to water to honey. Visitors to the site can choose to download the applet or run it online. Teachers can also download lesson plans submitted by other teachers who have used the resource in their classroom. The buoyant force on an object depends on the weight of the volume of fluid it displaces. The weight of the object determines how much fluid it will displace. This simulation allows the user to vary both of these parameters.
