Adaptation-Design a Species

This site contains a lesson plan with a powerpoint presentation that prepares students as they get ready to design a species that is adapted to survive in its environment.  The lesson plan and powerpoint cannot be accessed directly. Access this site and  scroll down until you reach the link to this activity.  There are two separate links-the powerpoint presentation and a teacher packet that contains the lesson plan and habitat, prey, predator cards. The lesson plan lays out detailed instructions.  The powerpoint presentation centers on marine environment as it sets the stage for students creating a make believe species adapted to survive in an environment.  Physical and behavioral adaptations are discussed in the powerpoint presentation.  Students work in groups of 2-3 and are then given a habitat card  and a prey or a predator to design a plant or animal species around.  Groups then share their make-believe species with the class.  Extensions to the lesson are also provided.
