Cartesian Classroom

The classroom is turned into a human Cartesian coordinate plane, thereby introducing students to the characteristics of the coordinate system. This is a great way to get the students involved in an actual representation of the coordinate plane.

Learning objectives:

Objectives:

  • The student identifies each quadrant and the characteristics of points in each quadrant (positive and negative).
  • The student identifies and plots ordered pairs in all four quadrants of the coordinate system.

Lesson Variations

Blooms taxonomy level:

Extension suggestions:

Extensions:

Students design their own picture on a four quadrant plane, and they give the coordinates on a separate sheet of paper.
