Monitoring for Understanding Activities
This Teacher Resource Guide accompanies the Fourth and Fifth Grade (4-5) Student Center Activities developed by the Florida Center for Reading Research and funded by Just Read, Florida!. It is designed to assist teachers in differentiating instruction by using independent student center activities that support monitoring for understanding during reading.
This document contains ready-to-print learning centers, workstations, or student practice games. Several activities are included to help students with components of monitoring for understanding during reading. These components include activating and using prior knowledge, predicting, questioning, synthesizing, using fix-up strategies. There are excellent graphic organizers that can be used with initial instruction as well. Each activity provides student objectives, needed materials, and step-by-step student instructions. Just print, laminate, cut and learn!
