Social Studies Skills Tutor [informational text resource]. Author: Pearson Education.
This resource uses social studies content to assess skills taught in language arts, including interactive resources for informational text, research, and logic strands. Fact and opinion, bias, sequencing, making generalizations, primary and secondary sources, point of view, analyzing graphics, synthesizing information, supporting a position, making inferences, and analyzing images are skills this resource address. Students can choose from learning, practicing, or applying skills and two levels (high school students choose Level 2). Students are instructed in audio/visual format, similar to a teacher using Power Point. During practice, students are given explanations for incorrect answers. Assessment is done in various forms including identifying evidence, multiple choice, and matching.
This resource is valuable for students grade 7-10 in multiple informational text skills, research, and logic skills. Teachers may use this for student enrichment, remediation, or assessment. Teachers may also use this resource for its interactive properities and ability to individualize each student's learning. This resource incorporates social studies into the language arts curriculum.
